North Vancouver Community Arts Council presents Urbanity
Artists:  Thompson Brennan  l  Mark Ollinger  l  Jon Shaw  l  Scott Sueme
This exhibition features paintings, sculpture and graffiti by four artists who are inspired by the 'writers' who colourfully mark our urban landscape.  Each artist presents a unique approach to graffiti; an intrigue of urban decay and beautification, the traces of presence left behind; and the writers themselves who are compelled to leave their mark on an urban canvas. Often controversial, graffiti can be observed as enhancing the mundane, defacing the ubiquitous or a making thought provoking statement. Undeniably, there is amazing artistic talent that exists in this realm.

The tour reveals some of the secrets of the Opheum's history and even some ghost stories. “We delight groups by taking them from the top of the iconic dome and then right down into the basement where the original ice-block air conditioning room was first installed in 1927,” says Rob Haynes, President, BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. Timescapes at the ArtStarts Gallery

The ArtStarts Gallery is the first in Canada devoted exclusively to young people's art. Since the gallery opened in 2006, exhibitions have celebrated the exciting artwork that emerges when students, educators and professional artists work together to deepen learning, creativity and community connections.

Museum of Vancouver presents Rewilding Vancouver

he first major exhibition in Canada to explore our relationship with nature through the lens of historical ecology, Rewilding Vancouver brings this new way of exploring the past to the forefront using Vancouver as the subject. The exhibition is comprised of taxidermy specimens, 3D models, soundscapes, videos and photo interventions that challenge our perception of what is natural to Vancouver. Visitors will discover a changing-of-the-guard when it comes to the region's wildlife, with ravens, wolves and elk fading as crows, coyotes and black-tailed deer settled in.
Rewilding Vancouver also challenges us to envision new streetscapes that feature unearthed fish-bearing streams long hidden below city streets. A life-sized creation of the now extinct Steller's Sea Cow is one of many highlights of this exhibition. https://www.museumofvancouver.ca

Vancouver Art Gallery Presents: Douglas Coupland
This is the first major survey exhibition of the artist's work and will be presented from May 31 - September 1, 2014. Douglas Coupland is an artist based in Vancouver whose remarkably prolific production across a diverse range of media over the past 12 years addresses the singularity of Canadian culture, the power of language, as well as the ever-pervasive presence of technology in everyday life. The title of the exhibition, 'everywhere is anywhere is anything is everything', refers both to Coupland's deep engagement with place and cultural identity and, simultaneously, his recognition of a growing ubiquity as access to information, images and technology becomes more readily available to the masses. 604-662-4700, customerservice@vanartgallery.bc.ca

Trying to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle can be challenging. With school, an abundance of screen time and busy family life, kids are spending less time being active and as a result, many are above a healthy weight. In fact, over the past 25 years, rates of Canadian childhood overweight and obesity have doubled to one in four children.
Helping kids grow up strong and healthy is why the YMCA exists. That?s why we offer MEND, a program that empowers children and families to become fitter and healthier. This free program is fun and interactive and supports 7-13 year old children and their families to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Who can participate?  MEND 7-13 is for children aged 7-13 who are above a healthy weight (body mass index (BMI) of 85 per cent or higher). Calculate your child's BMI with the BMI Calculator for children and youth.
What happens at the MEND program? Parents/caregivers join their children in each session to learn about how to choose healthier foods and spend more time being physically active. Twice-weekly sessions are a mix of family activities where participants learn how small changes can make a big difference. The program also includes:
After 10 weeks, you and your family will be well on your way to a healthier life!
